Ann Blanchette

Intern Therapist.
RN, BN, MACP (Candidate)

When life feels uncertain or overwhelming, it can be hard to know where to turn. If you’re carrying stress, caregiving demands, trauma, or navigating major life changes, you don’t have to do it alone. I support children, families, adults, and frontline professionals in finding steadiness, resilience, and space for healing.

This work is deeply meaningful to me and reflects a natural evolution of my path in the helping professions. My journey to psychotherapy represents a third chapter in my career, shaped by years of walking alongside individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging moments. Now in mid-life, I bring both professional and lived experience into this work. What I valued most in my previous careers was the opportunity to be present with people in their most vulnerable moments—to listen, to support, and to witness their unique journeys. This continues to be at the heart of how I practice today.

My name is Ann, and my journey to psychotherapy is grounded in a Registered Nursing background and 24 years of experience in emergency, trauma, neonatal intensive care, and pre-hospital settings, including work as a paramedic in the United States. These years on the frontline of healthcare have shaped how I understand people—particularly how trauma, medical stress, and life-altering events impact us not only emotionally, but physically and relationally. This experience continues to inform how I show up in the therapy room: grounded, steady, and deeply attuned.

I support adults, children (7+), and families navigating trauma, health-related anxiety, workplace stress and burnout, caregiver strain, grief, disability, and complex life or medical transitions. I have a particular interest in early relational experiences, including infant attachment and the foundational role of caregiver-child connection in development. I also work with children with diverse needs such as ADHD and Autism, and I recognize how deeply children are influenced by their caregivers and environments. I value working collaboratively with parents while ensuring the child’s voice, experience, and sense of safety remain central.

My approach is rooted in a humanistic, person-centred foundation, where feeling seen, heard, and understood is the starting point for change. From there, I integrate a trauma-informed lens, ensuring that therapy moves at a pace that feels safe and supportive. I draw from evidence-based approaches to help clients better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, while also paying close attention to nervous system responses and the effects of prolonged stress, caregiving demands, and high-pressure environments.

In my work, I often incorporate creative and experiential approaches, especially when words are not enough. This may include games, art, movement, storytelling, and the use of metaphors or stories to help make sense of complex emotions and experiences. These approaches can be particularly helpful for children, caregivers, and individuals processing trauma, as they allow for expression, regulation, and connection in ways that feel more accessible and less overwhelming.

I am also the proud parent of two teenage children, including parenting within a neurodiverse family, which has shaped my understanding of ADHD, learning differences, and the realities of navigating systems of support. Having grown up in a military family and lived across Canada, Germany, and the United States, I bring an appreciation for transition, resilience, and the complexities of identity and belonging. In our spare time, my family and I enjoy exploring Canada’s national parks, as well as spending time together playing board games and Mario Party. I see it as a privilege to do this work and am guided by values of honesty, integrity, compassion, and social justice.
