Research consistently supports couples therapy as effective for improving relationship satisfaction, communication, and conflict resolution. The Gottman Method, used by our therapists, has been studied in over 3,000 couples and shows strong outcomes for reducing destructive conflict and building lasting connection.
Couples therapy works best when both partners are willing to participate, but one partner beginning therapy is not uncommon and can still be meaningful. Your therapist will discuss what format makes the most sense for your situation.
Individual therapy focuses on one person’s internal world — their history, patterns, and growth. Couples therapy focuses on the relationship itself — the dynamic between two people. Our therapists are trained to hold space for both partners without taking sides, while keeping the relationship’s health and growth at the centre of the work.
It varies significantly depending on the complexity of the issues and the goals both partners bring. Some couples see meaningful shifts in 8–12 sessions; others invest in longer-term work. Your therapist will discuss pacing with you after the first session.
Coverage depends on your extended health benefit plan. Many plans cover individual psychotherapy services, and couples therapy may be covered if billed individually. Please contact your insurer or speak with our team about your options.
